Raise to totals

Raise to totals

The total landings each month are calculated using sampled weight and raising factor. The number of trips is calculated as total effort using the number of fishing days, total vessels, and sampled days.  The ex-vessel price of landed fish is calculated using the price per pound and observed weight.

After raising to totals, a new total weight record is generated and inserted into TFM.

Formulas

Landings

Total Effort = fishing days * total vessel / sampled days

Observed weight = sum weight

Boat sampled = sum days fished

Sampled days = count distinct interview dates

Raising Factor = fishing days * total vessels / sampled days) / boat sampled.

Total landing = sampled weight * Raising Factor

A raising factor (RF) is calculated for each site every month using the number of vessels observed out fishing each month, sampling days, and fishing days each month for sampled sites.

Value and Price

Average Value = sum  value/sum weight

Total Value = value * raising factor

Non sampled site

For non-sampled sites, a percentage is calculated using a formula that includes the number of registered vessels, and the main type of fishing activity. A sampled site with similar fishing activities as that of a non-sampled site will be used to calculate the landing for a non-sampled site.   The following is used to calculate the weight for “Other Site”.

Percentage = (Total vessels at non samples site / total vessels at sampled site) * 100

Landing for non-sampled site = (percentage * total landing of species at the site with similar fishing activities)/100

How to

  1. Export the data to a spreadsheet.

  2. Use the formula to determine you raising factor and raise the samples to totals by landing site and species.

  3. Insert the newly created raised record normally into TFM.
